Britain has entered a new political chapter.
On 20 July 2026, Andy Burnham officially became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, succeeding Keir Starmer after a rapid change of leadership within the governing Labour Party. The former Mayor of Greater Manchester now takes charge at a time when the country is facing significant economic and social pressures, and when public confidence in politics is under intense scrutiny.
Burnham’s arrival at Downing Street is particularly notable because of how quickly his political journey accelerated. Until recently, he was serving as Mayor of Greater Manchester.
